Job overview

We are pleased to be recruiting a part-time 0.6 wte band 7 Specialist Psychologist/Psychological Therapist/Psychotherapist – trauma, providing CBT and trauma-focussed CBT to our adult service users in secondary care the majority of whom present with PTSD or complex PTSD. Other presentations include moderate-severe anxiety, depression and personality disorder presentations. With the Home Office in Croydon, the service often works with refugees and asylum seekers. The successful candidates will work alongside other members of a large, supportive and cohesive multi-orientation, psychological therapies team and closely with other professional colleagues in secondary care adult services. We are happy to receive applications from clinical/counselling psychologists who have completed training in 2025 but have yet to apply for HPC registration due to an outstanding viva.

Development opportunities: The Trust provides access to a wide range of CPD opportunities and all staff are encouraged to undertake development opportunities and activities relevant to their post. As a multi-modality team there are opportunities for learning and development alongside other modalities.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work alongside other Clinical/Counselling Psychologists delivering specialist interventions primarily using CBT. A significant proportion of the team’s referrals are for complex PTSD (including refugees and asylum seekers) as well as complex trauma presentations. In addition to assessing and treatment, all team members offer consultation and undertake integrated link-in work to support the work of colleagues in the CMHTs, which each staff member supporting a specific team.

About our locations:

The team is based in central Croydon (Jeanette Wallace House) and face-to-face sessions are provided at this base and at other Croydon sites including the Bethlem Hospital (but not for this post holder currently). The main team day is a Wednesday, which is a required working day for this post. Jeanette Wallace House is a modern, air-conditioned office with plenty of space, close to the vibrant Croydon high-street that offers fantastic shopping opportunities and a wide range of restaurants. It is within walking distance to East Croydon overland station with quick links to London. There are good bus, rail and tram links. There is no free parking at Jeanette Wallace House, but there are various paid parking sites close by.

Bethlem Royal Hospital

Bethlem Royal Hospital is based in a beautiful setting in over 200 acres of green space in the London Borough of Bromley, South East London. The hospital has easy access to nearby main roads and have offers free parking. The site is within walking distance from of Eden Park and West Wickham overland stations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

· To provide specialist psychological interventions, specifically Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and trauma-focussed CBT to adults in secondary care with moderate to severe mood, anxiety and personality disorders and particularly for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.

· To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.

· To provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate.

· To work as an autonomous professional within registration body guidelines and codes of conduct and guided by principles and policies or procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisor

· To be active in the provision of staff support within their area, including but not limited to Critical Incident Staff Support and Reflect-Support-Resolve. To participate, as a recipient, in staff support work when appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with HCPC/APC/BPC/UKCP/BACP/BABCP
  • Significant core training in CBT and tf-CBT

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Adult secondary care experience mood, anxiety and personality disorders with CBT
  • Adult secondary care experience of tf-CBT for PTSD or cPTSD
  • Experience of developing/implementing audit/research
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a specialist trauma service using tf-CBT

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Administration of psychometric and neuropsychological tests

Abilites

  • Ability and experience of working in an MDT
