Job overview
The Clinical Service Lead is responsible for the day to day delivery of First for Mental Health services with direct line management for the service.
They ensure there is day to day focus on strong clinical and operational, outcomes in an integrated way. They will play a crucial role in offering
operational and clinical input to this important programme while continuing to support a busy quality agenda. The postholder will take a lead in
supporting the Head of Service in monitoring the delivery of high-quality care across the First for Mental Health NHS 111 and MPS Section-136
Service Lines across the South London geographical area. The post holder will deputies for the Head of Service when required and also be a:
• highly visible and proactive leader acting as a clinical resource and ensuring the sustained delivery of high standards of care
• responsible for exploring current practice, identifying areas for development, and planning the appropriate change using current
evidence to evaluate outcomes
• responsible for the quality of the patient care and lead on facilitating changes which improve the patient experience
• leader who works in partnership with other Trusts in the SLP and related crisis services
• The post holder will be required to take up on Manager on call duties on rota basis. This involves providing support and expert advice to
the inpatient services out of hours.
Main duties of the job
To be a highly visible, accessible, and proactive manager and leader for the First for Mental Health 111 press 2 service and 136 service.
To support the development of a culture that promotes leadership through coaching and Quality improvement
To lead on recruiting, motivating, training, developing and retraining appropriate staff enabling them to have the skills, experience and discretion to
function effectively in their roles
Provide demonstrate assurance that staff have the appropriate skills and competences to deliver high quality care
To demonstrate clinical competence and role model effective clinical care delivery
To represent the service and deputies for the Head of Service where appropriate
To be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of First for Mental Health services, including the 136 service
To be responsible for monitoring the staffing establishment, ensuring timely recruitment and appropriate selection of staff and to ensure that there is an appropriate skill mix within the teams and which reflects service requirements and safe patient services.
To contribute to the development of a proactive philosophy and culture of health care provision, in which health promotional activity plays a major
component

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised Professional Qualification Registered Mental Nurse or RMN, Social Work (DipSW/CQSW) Psychology or other allied professions
- Degree or equivalent experience
- Extensive post-registration professional development
Desirable criteria
- MSc, Management Course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience at a senior management level, including managing change and introducing new ways of working for all professions
- Experience of multi-professional collaboration at a senior level
- Partnership working with other statutory and voluntary agencies
- Leadership skills especially the ability to lead and manage change thorough influence without direct management
- Experience of working within the NHS or related public sector organisation
- Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and knowledge of methods to develop culturally sensitive practice
Desirable criteria
- Experience of racial awareness/diversity training
- Experience of project management
- Experience of working in a practice development or teaching capacity
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the current policy context and the implications for Crisis mental health services
- Knowledge of current professional developments in community Crisis Services

- Able to communicate complex and sensitive issues to a range of audiences
- Understanding of Public sector management and NHS Mental Health Services, Social and Primary Care Services
- Able to negotiate and influence in order to achieve objectives without direct line management.
- Able to identify and establish credibility and good working relationships with representatives of external agencies and partners and manage those relationships with sensitivity and diplomacy
- Able to demonstrate a strong commitment to equal opportunities and equal access with a practical approach to ensure that policies are applicable to practice.
- Able to demonstrate a genuine commitment to ensuring that services meet the needs of patients, family and carers, and are delivered with sensitivity.
Desirable criteria
- Able to work on several projects simultaneously using project management skills
- Able to identify key issues from complex documents and plan for operationalising same
- Evidence of consultancy skills
