Job overview

 Undertake a routine and  a complex clinical caseload in Paediatric Audiology working autonomously and as a part of a team

Post qualification experience working in a Paediatric Audiology department.

Experience in Paediatric Audiology diagnostic testing and batteries of test

Provide expert clinical service in diagnostic testing of children from 8 months-18 years.

Main duties of the job

The Paediatric Audiology Team is a Tier 2 Diagnostic Service looking for a motivated professional who has excellent interpersonal skills and is able to work with children in a clinical setting.

The post holder will be responsible for assessing and diagnosing hearing loss for children aged 7months -18 years old.

They will  have expert clinical knowledge in Paediatric Audiology and be able to undertake full test batteries autonomously and skilfully.

Those assessments  of children  include routine as well as complex, and  non-routine cases and informing parents/carers of the outcomes.

The post holder is expected to work in a multidisciplinary way liaising with other professionals involved in the care of the children as part of ESCAN Ealing Service for Children with Additional Needs 

The post holder is expected to work  mainly at one site   but will be expected to work across Community sites in the Borough of Ealing  if there are Service demands  

It is essential for the post holder to have:

1-BSc in Audiology or other nationally recognized qualification in Audiology

2- Registration with Council for RCCP: Registration  Council for Clinical Physiologists

3- The post holder will have had at least a  minimum of 2 years experience in Paediatric Audiology, which needs to be demonstrated

4- The person  specifications for this job description , needs to be  fully met  by the post holder

West London NHS Trust, in partnership with Central and North West London NHS Trust (CNWL), the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust and some other smaller providers, including third sector, have formed a partnership, Ealing Community Partners, to provide integrated community health services in Ealing.

The Ealing Paediatric Audiology Service is an integral part of the Ealing Service for Children with Additional Needs (ESCAN) which integrates different health, education and social services for children. 

 There is a high level of integration and collaboration between different health, education and social care services.

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Undertake full Audiological assessments of children, to include complex and non-routine cases such as those with multiple disabilities and severe communication difficulties.
  • Update own professional knowledge.
  • This includes history taking , carrying all batteries of tests such as : otoscopy, Play audiometry, pure tone audiometry, tympanometry, visual reinforcement audiometry, otoacoustic emissions and speech discrimination tests.
  • To efficiently manage time, prioritise tasks to ensure that service delivery is optimised
  • Assist with clinical supervision , appraisal and training of junior staff.
  • Need to adhere to regular peer review by the Audiology Team Lead.
  • Maintain daily communication with the audiology team lead and the wider team.
  • To record outcomes into the current data base System 1
  • To be able to deputy on the absence of Team Lead on the main tasks in relation to the management of the Service .
  • To maintain accurate clinical records in line with departmental and trust policies. To generate clinical reports for all children seen and sent to relevant specialities/parents.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • BSc in Audiology or BAAT parts I & II or equivalent
  • • Certificate of Audiological Competence (or equivalent experience)
  • • Registration with RCCP
  • . Experience on Paediatric Audiological caseloads and assessments
Desirable criteria
  • Registration with British Society of Audiology (BSA) or British Association of Audiology (BAA)

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Post qualification experience working in a paediatric audiology department.
  • • Experience in paediatric diagnostic Audiology
  • • Knowledge of health service practices and understanding of clinical governance
  • • Up to date knowledge of diagnostic testing and current practices
  • • Experience in working autonomously in community settings
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in working with children with special needs or medical complexities

  • • Competent at carrying out a full range of audiological testing
  • • Ability to communicate effectively with hearing impaired patients of all ages
