Job overview

We are pleased to offer the appointment of a  Consultant

Gastroenterologist post  at the North Middlesex University  Hospital  Trust. This  post offers an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to join a committed team of Consultants in this well- developed and expanding service, with close working relationship with the Radiology, Histopathology, Hepatology, Hepato-pancreatico biliary, and Colorectal surgery services. Applicants will be expected to be experts in the assessment of patients with gastroenterology conditions and to deliver endoscopic interventions across OGD, Flexi Sig, Colonoscopy and ERCP services. Experience in more complex, therapeutic endoscopy is desirable and appointees will cover inpatient care, emergency endoscopy lists and participate in the Gastroenterology on-call rota for ward and GI bleeding (1 in 7 ).  EUS experience would be considered as a desirable criteria.

 

Applicants for the post must have a CCT and GMC Specialist Registration with a license. 

 

 

Full competency in Upper and lower GI endoscopy is essential

Main duties of the job

 Provide senior clinician services to the department as per job plan or as agreed within the Trust, and as required when on call.

• Provide senior clinical support for specialty in reach to the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) · Provide training for doctors, nursing and AHP colleagues.

• Maintain Joint Advisory Group in GI Endoscopy (JAG) and British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) standards in endoscopic practice.

• Participate in the out of hours GI bleeding rota.

• Work with consultant colleagues and nursing staff to ensure efficient use of Trust’s resources and contribute actively to clinical governance in the department and to development of quality enhancement projects in the unit.

• Provide senior clinician services to area of special interest as per the job plan or as agreed within the Trust. For a consultant Gastroenterologist this will include providing endoscopic services, inpatient workload and outpatient services and working with colleagues to ensure the most efficient use of NHS resources.

• Show flexibility and undertake different appropriate clinical tasks within allocated DCC sessions at the request of the clinical manager, as the need arises.

• Actively participate in the Unit’s Teaching Program and undertake supervision, teaching and training of medical trainees and other multi-professional staff, in line with guidance from the relevant Royal Colleges or specialty bodies.

• Actively participate in clinical guidelines development, audit and CPD.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCP or Equivalent Degree
  • GMC Registration
  • CCST/CCT or equivalent in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine and on the specialist register, or within 6 months of CCT date at the time of interview, or evidence of working towards specialist registration via CESR •
  • • Higher post graduate qualification/degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Competent in Diagnostic and Advanced Endoscopy
  • Evidence of leadership and management experience
  • Experience of service development and quality improvement initiatives
  • Posters/presentations at regional and national meetings •Publications in peer reviewed journals •Knowledge and participation of clinical audit
