Job overview
There is an exciting opportunity within the North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) for a full-time Specialty Doctor to join the Enfield Acute Adult Services based in Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield. The role is based on Sussex ward which is a 17-bedded female acute admission ward at Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield. The post is available on a 6 month fixed term contract basis (with an option to extend for a further 6 months following). We aim to be able to appoint to this post on a substantive basis in the very near future.
Main duties of the job
This is a fixed term post for 6 months (with the option to then further extend) which has become available due to service gap. An induction will be provided to your placement explaining roles and responsibilities as well as your workplace. A Trust induction will also be provided after starting in your allocated post.
The successful applicant will work within the team and provide medical input. The post will offer the opportunity to perform clinical assessments of individuals with mental health problems including mental state examination, history taking, physical health examination and attendance of meetings with the multidisciplinary team. Additional opportunities with regards to Mental Health Act Assessments, tribunal report writing and attendance as well as leading of MDT meetings/work.
The post holder will gain experience with the full spectrum of psychiatric morbidity. This post is based in a multidisciplinary setting and the post holder will work closely with all the members of the team (consultant, other doctor, physician associate, nurses, health care assistances, psychologists, social workers & graduate mental health workers). The care delivered is recovery-focused, placing emphasis on individuals’ strengths and goals for the future.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To join and document ward meetings, morning meetings, ward reviews and at times chair/lead these as well.
2. Perform clinical assessments of individuals with mental health problems admitted to the ward.
3. Develop knowledge of mental health, including formulation of care plans and provide support to more junior team members.
4. To perform physical health checks (bloods, ECGs and physical examinations) and liaise with general hospital/GP colleagues to maintain patient physical health.
5. Develop psychiatric interview and risk assessment skills.
6. To complete medical recommendations for detention under the Mental Health Act.
7. To prepare reports and present evidence at Tribunal hearings with appropriate supervision where necessary.
8. To be flexible and accessible in providing appropriate care to the patients.
9. To work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
10. To comply with the trust values, policies, and procedures.
11. To participate in quality improvement work (e.g. audit, service development, etc.).
Person specification
Qualifications & Experience
Essential criteria
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise from the GMC by the intended start date
Desirable criteria
- A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in psychiatry (its equivalent gained on a part time basis) or equivalent experience and competencies in psychiatric specialties
- Section 12 approval
- Other postgraduate qualification of relevance

- Previous medical or psychiatric experience in foundation training or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Experience in adult acute inpatient psychiatry including clinical attachment in psychiatry in UK.
