Job overview

Royal Free is recruiting for a Deputy Director of Financial Performance (Corporate Finance) to support the Director of Finance. This would ideally suit an ambitious and dynamic candidate who is looking for the next challenging role which will allow them to gain exposure of working in a large acute trust with a group model that is continually evolving and growing

The Deputy Director of Financial Performance is a key stakeholder in the Corporate Leadership team. The post holder will be responsible for the development and delivery of financial strategy for the Corporate Directorates to ensure long term viability and financial stability of the Group, supporting the implementation of a sound financial framework and effective arrangements for financial governance.

Main duties of the job

The Corporate Finance function holds all non-clinical group wide services within the Royal Free Group.  This includes Corporate services, Estates and Facilities, Property Services and Research & Development.  Corporate Finance is responsible for an expenditure budget of c£500m, almost 20% of the Groups overall spend.  As such, ensuring the integrity of the financial position and providing value add financial services to corporate stakeholders is essential, not just to delivery of the corporate finance position, but also overall delivery of the group wide plan. 

The post holder will provide financial leadership to the Corporate directorate’s leadership team in developing implementing and monitoring the financial plan. Aligned to this, the post holder will support the delivery of improved financial efficiency of the Corporate directorates.

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
  • Masters Degree or Equivalent
  • Expert knowledge of financial Accounting procedures including current legislation and NHS accounting policies
  • Professional Chartered Accountancy Qualification
  • Evidence of recent CPD including specialist training and experience relating to NHS finance as well as national accounting standards
  • Significant post qualification experience as a Head of Finance in a complex organisation.
  • Networking: being able to work within and without the Trust with credibility out of area.
  • Awareness: up to date with the NHS policy, national directives and all Governance aspects but with a specific emphasis on NHS Finance.
  • Significant and demonstrable previous experience or demonstrable capability and capacity for leading and managing staff
  • Significant post qualification experience as a Head of Finance in a NHS organisation of comparable complexity
  • Experience of the NHS planning
  • Knowledge of company finance
  • Experience of restructuring
  • Excellent interpersonal and commination skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to track record of effectively communicating highly complex and sensitive information to large groups
  • Ability to challenge and effectively manage and deal with highly contentious situations and issues
  • Sound political judgment and astuteness in understanding and working with complex policy, information and diverse interest groups
  • Highly developed influencing skills: with senior health care professionals across the Health Community and external organisations
