This role is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to develop the Occupational Therapy provision within Enfield Communication Advisory Support Service (ECASS).
You will sit within a dynamic multi professional health and education team working in an integrated approach delivering services to mainstream schools for children with Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). The post is 2.5 days a week, with easy commuter links from central London/Hertfordshire.

Main duties of the job
To support primary and secondary schools to meet the occupational needs of children with SLCN and to identify those with additional motor or developmental concerns.
To provide high quality, evidence based universal and targeted training and intervention packages for schools.
To support schools to develop resources and support packages for families.
To develop clinical expertise within this specialist area, establishing an evidence based clinical pathway and service provision.
The successful candidate will have children’s Occupational therapy experience, be committed to occupationally focused, child centred and evidence-based care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Summary of OT Role
To provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service to schools and students accessing ECASS.
To be responsible for developing the role of the OT within ECASS.
To support schools to meet the occupational needs of children with SLCN and to identify those with additional motor or developmental needs.
To develop clinical expertise within this specialist area, establishing an evidence based clinical pathway and service provision.
To provide high quality, evidence based universal and targeted training and intervention packages for schools and school staff within area of clinical specialism.
To support schools to develop resources and support packages for families.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
To supervise, appraise and train students and junior staff as required.
To contribute to and lead on aspects of planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating ECASS. To contribute to and lead on specified OT service improvements and quality initiatives within the team
To work effectively and flexibly within an interdisciplinary framework in a multidisciplinary and multi-agency environment, including working with teachers, SENCO’s, speech and language therapists, educational psychologists and other professionals
To be flexible to the demands of the service in regard to location of work and area of clinical specialis

Experience/ knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience/ knowledge • Extensive postgraduate clinical experience of Occupational Therapy. • Extensive relative experience and practise in Children’s Occupational Therapy within mainstream schools setting and the community. • Excellent knowledge of childhood occupations especially school occupations. • Experience of working with children with Speech and language and communication difficulties and associated learning and motor needs. • Well-developed knowledge of the use of informal methods of assessment within the classroom. • Clear understanding of the unique role of an Occupational Therapist within a mainstream school setting. • Good understanding of the Universal, Targeted and Specialist approach within mainstream school setting. • Good knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy • Experience of providing training to school staff. • A good understanding of the importance of evidence base practice and how it applies to clinical practice • Sound knowledge of child development and childhood occupations • Understanding and practical experience of using child centred outcome measures within an education setting. • Extensive experience of working within a Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) and with Multi-agency partners • Experience of service development. • Ability to incorporate principles of Clinical Governance into day-to-day workload. • Experience in supervising & teaching junior staff & Students • Well established knowledge of national policies, procedures and legislation relevant to Children’s Occupational therapy and Education (including Safeguarding). • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, statutory frameworks and best practice affecting children and young people with SEN/D including speech, language and communication & SEMH needs. • An excellent awareness of current issues and developments within the NHS and Education and how this relates to and impacts on service delivery •
