This is an exciting time to be working at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trustone of the biggest NHS Trusts in the UK, delivering care to more than 1.6 million people a year through our three main hospitals: Barnet, Chase Farm and Royal Free.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for Senior Orthopaedic Scrub Nurse / Charge Nurse / ODP to support Chase Farm Theatres. The successful candidate will be expected to lead the Orthopaedic Team in to the future as we have been named as the North London Orthopaedic Centre and new times ahead for the Trust.

We recently become one of a few hospitals nationally to become an Accredited GIRFT Surgical Hub.

The successful candidate is required to be able demonstrate the Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description and person specification. In particular you should have proven experience of working and leading the Orthopaedic Teams on a daily basis.

Chase Farm Theatres consists of 8 Theatres of which the Orthopaedics operating is done in the state of the art Barn Theatre setting which this is the fourth Barn Theatre in the UK.

This consists of 4 laminar flow hoods with no dividing walls.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse/ODP
  • Recognised Post Graduate Theatre Course ENB176
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship Course (e.g. ENB 998, D32 D33) or assessor course or demonstrated willingness to enrol

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in Orthopaedic scrub and circulating practice (at Band 5 or above)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in managing junior staff (HCA/ students) including appraisal, performance, absence, selection and recruitment

Skills & Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Good written, numeracy & verbal communications skills
  • Awareness of clinical issues within the theatre dept
  • Able to work as part of a team within set boundaries
  • Able to prioritise workload
  • Able to work under pressure in a dynamic environment and manage difficult situations
  • Positive and motivated with attention to detail
Desirable criteria
  • Computer skills including some Electronic patient record IT system
