Band 7 Practitioner Psychologist / CBT Therapist in Pain Management
 
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Enfield Pain Service (EPS) which serves patients who have a long-term pain condition e.g. chronic lower back pain, chronic widespread pain, fibromyalgia. The focus of the Enfield Pain Service is to help patients understand their pain condition, as well as supporting them to develop a range of skills and strategies to manage their pain effectively long-term and improve quality of life . You'll be joining a supportive multidisciplinary team of comprising of medical, physiotherapy and psychology professionals - with the post holder being supervised by a Band 8a psychologist. 
 
A background and interest in working with long-term health conditions is an advantage, however the post-holder will also receive training and on-going support within the service. The daily duties will involve supporting the MDT in terms of psychological assessment and delivering 1:1 and group interventions based on CBT, ACT and CFT approaches, along with contributing to service evaluation/improvement projects, supervising an assistant psychologist and liaising with other relevant services e.g. Talking Therapies, MSK services. 
 
Working in Pain can be incredibly rewarding and the post-holder will likely be able to develop their psychological skills and expertise that can be generalisable to lots of other types of physical health conditions. 
 

Main duties of the job

 

  • Provide specialist psychological assessment
  • Provide specialist 1:1 psychological interventions based on cognitive-behavioural therapy, acceptance & commitment therapy and/or compassion focused therapy.   
  • Co-facilitate group pain management programmes (PMP’s) and contribute to the development of PMP’s
  • Contribute to the collection and analysis of outcome data of both individual and group interventions
  • Offer advice and consultation on patients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the services’ policies and procedures
  • Utilise research skills for audit and research purposes as required.

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in Counselling or Clinical Psychology as accredited by the British Psychology Society (BPS) with HCPC Registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • OR Completion of a Level 2 Accredited CBT course (High Intensity IAPT Training Course) as accredited by the British Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

  • Experience of working within a pain management and/or other Chronic Health conditions setting providing specialist psychological assessment and interventions.
  • Experience of delivering psychological interventions in a group setting.

Skills and aptitudes

  • Skills in the use of outcome measures to aid psychological assessment.
  • Skills in assessing pain conditions, impact on quality of life, risk and suitability for self-management approaches.
  • Skills in the delivery of psychological interventions relevant to the needs of patients with persistent pain conditions and PTSD and those experiencing psychological difficulties secondary to their health condition.
  • Skills in the delivery of CBT, ACT and/or CFT interventions on a 1:1 and group basis.
  • Skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks in relation to the patient group.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and quantitative data analysis as practiced within the field of psychology.
