Job overview

Band 6 Junior Charge Nurse/Sister – Neonatal Services

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Junior Charge Nurse/Sister to join our friendly and supportive team.

Special Care Baby Unit at Epsom  has 6 level 1 cots, but regularly cares for level 2 & 3 babies requiring stabilisation prior to transfer to our level 2 unit on the St Helier's base. Additional Epsom host a transitional care unit on the postnatal ward which we provide support to.

The successful post holder will play a key role in delivering high-quality care to babies and their families while supporting the future development of our integrated neonatal and transitional care model.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your leadership skills, gain experience across a range of neonatal settings, and be part of a team committed to innovation, family-centred care, and excellence.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will provide direct care to sick and preterm infants on Special Care Baby Unit and Transitional Care. The post holder will also attend all Neonatal emergencies and provide visible professional leadership in collaboration with the ward manager.

To promote a friendly and supportive atmosphere for parents and relatives in which they can learn to care for their babies. To utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively: with the neonate’s family/carers, the multidisciplinary team, other departments within the Trust and pertinent agencies outside the organisation. Support the nursing team in proving advices on breastfeeding, developmental care, family integrated care and parent education.

Working for our organisation

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.
