We are currently recruiting a health care assistant to join our successful Barnet community palliative care team  . You will be part of a dedicated team caring for people with life-limiting conditions in their own homes, committed to delivering high standards of care to patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as a member of the community palliative care team providing  support to patients in their own home. They will work unsupervised undertaking a broad range of duties relating to the care of patients with end of life/palliative care needs in their homes.

Work within the policy framework of the hospice in its provision of specialist palliative and supportive care by ensuring that the clinical aims and objectives of the organisation are met.

The Hospice operates a KSF-based workforce development programme which incorporates a detailed method of Personal Development Review (PDR). The competence and performance of our staff is important to us; you may be asked to attend training and development some of which may be mandatory.

Essential criteria
  • General education to GCSE level or equivalent
  • NVQ care level 2
  • NVQ level 3 or agreement to undertake within 2 years

  • Palliative care course

Skills and abilities

  • Literate and numerate
  • Good communication skills -written and verbal and listening
  • Organisational skills
  • Basic computer skills
Desirable criteria
  • Phlebotomy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience in healthcare setting caring for patients
  • Experience of caring in the home setting
  • Experience in caring for the dying patient

  • Palliative care experience

  • Knowledge of end of life care
  • Health and safety issues
