Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Lead Pharmacist who will support the Chief Pharmacy Information Officer on the implementation and operational delivery of digital pharmacy systems,  including Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA), across the Trust.

 The postholder should possess strong leadership skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a proven track record in managing complex projects within a healthcare environment. Main duties of the job

Support in the design of Pharmacy digital systems and in pursuit of transformational change, maximising the opportunities for research, innovation, and improvement that Pharmacy digital, data, and technology offer to community healthcare.

The post holder will be responsible for:

• Supporting the operational delivery of digital pharmacy systems, including Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA), across the Trust. 
• Assist in implementing and maintaining digital Pharmacy systems while supporting staff training, governance, and system optimisation. 
• This role plays a key part in ensuring patient safety, service efficiency, and compliance with Trust policies. 
• The post holder will also hold line management responsibility for designated staff, ensuring effective performance, training, and development. 
• Report directly to the Chief Pharmacy Information Officer (CPIO).

Person specification

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Post-graduate qualification or evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) in clinical pharmacy, medicines management, or digital pharmacy systems
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or related specialty.
  • Further qualifications in information technology, healthcare informatics, or digital health systems

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience working as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital or community healthcare setting, including a proven record in the development and management of electronic prescribing systems (e.g., EPMA).
  • Proven experience in leading and managing change, particularly with regard to the integration of digital systems into clinical practice
  • Experience in the development and delivery of training programs for healthcare professionals
  • Practical experience in managing the use of medicines safely, including risk assessments, incident investigation, and safety alerts
  • Experience in implementing policies, procedures, and governance frameworks related to medicines management and digital systems
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with electronic pharmacy systems, formulary management, or digital health transformation projects
  • Experience in auditing clinical practices and systems, particularly in relation to patient safety and quality improvement

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Strong knowledge of digital health systems, particularly EPMA, and their implementation in a clinical environment
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex data to inform clinical decision-making and improve patient safety
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and external stakeholders
  • Ability to design and deliver training programs for a wide range of healthcare professionals
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of healthcare informatics and the role of digital solutions in enhancing clinical practices and patient care
  • Knowledge of current trends in digital health, clinical decision support systems, and patient safety initiatives
