The CAMHS Single Point of Access team are recruiting an Assistant Psychologist post at Band 4 within Community CAMHS.
This post holder will support the CAMHS Single Point of Access by screening the incoming referrals, tasking them to the correct clinician for thorough triage, triaging some referrals, and completing any follow up actions for families and young people.
The post holder will also support with quality improvement projects on SPA including developing our signposting guide, obtaining feedback about the SPA service from young people and families, and developing and maintaining relationships with our community partners, including all the local CAMHS Teams (First Steps, Specialist CAMHS, CAMHS Disability), our 16-25 year old services (Off Centre and Growing Minds), our other NHS Children’s Services (Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy), and our voluntary sector organisations in Hackney.
We will provide opportunities for shadowing and joint working with our CAMHS teams depending on the learning and career goals of the post holder.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Conduct and evaluate outcomes for duty by being directly involved at every stage of the process including screening.
- Duty tasks involving liaison between all clinicians and staff to ensure referral process are scheduled to fit with service targets
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, involving recording relevant information for the purpose of tracking referrals, maintaining robust data collection and overseeing assessment/triage clinic operations.
- Be responsible for data entry and RiO progress notes
- Support the Community CAMHS Service in developing clinical resources for referrals, triage, duty, initial assessments and risk assessments.
- Work in partnership with clients and colleagues, maintaining respect for differing opinions and discussing all appropriate options for ways of working together effectively.
- ·Work flexibly (independently, with MDT members, wider systems/agencies) to keep duty and the referrals process running smoothly.
- Assist with research projects, audit activities and teaching.
- Undertake research and personal development activities appropriate to the post, under the guidance of the line manager.
- ·Assist qualified staff in setting up and co-facilitating group interventions as appropriate.
- Support the organisation of training events.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The SPA Assistant Clinical Psychologist for CAMHS SPA post involves key aspects of
clinical administration and clinical data collection for duty and mental health referral
management. The post holder will also be responsible for maintenance of Community
CAMHS duty databases and processes. They will also support training events and group
interventions as needed. This post presents an opportunity to gain exposure to the
processes of specialist mental health services for children/young people with a range of
difficulties and disabilities. Although the role primarily will be within CAMHS SPA the post
holder may be requested to work alongside other Community CAMHS services

Person specification
Essential
Essential criteria
- Relevant degree: Upper second or first class or equivalent. Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society A desire to progress onto Clinical Psychology Training
- Substantive experience working for a public sector /3rd sector organisation, in an Assistant Psychologist or similar role. Clinical work with children/young people and parents/carers.
- High level communication and facilitation skills with regards to clients (children, young people and parents/carers with diverse needs) and professionals – ability to tailor information to a range of levels.
- Skills to work with staff and clients from diverse ethnic communities in providing a culturally competent service.
- Competence in IT and keyboard skills. Ability to use information technology e.g. MS Office 2010 upwards including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point; manipulation of data within a database.
Desirable criteria
- Further education in relevant area of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
- Work with children within a CAMHS framework in the NHS.
- Experience in a setting where good practice is evident in relation to child protection
- Understanding of various psychological measures, tools and psychometric tests.
