We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced Band 7 Ward Manager to join our Graham Ward Team on a 3-month fixed-term basis. This exciting opportunity has arisen to provide leadership during a period of temporary service reconfiguration while essential fire safety improvement works are undertaken across our inpatient wards.

As Ward Manager, you will provide visible, compassionate and effective leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based patient care while supporting staff through a complex operational change programme.

During the fire safety works, patient care will be temporarily reconfigured, with patients from several specialties being cared for within Graham Stroke Unit. This will require exceptional leadership to coordinate patient flow, maintain patient safety, support multidisciplinary working, and ensure excellent communication between nursing teams and multiple consultant teams.

You will work closely with the Matron, multidisciplinary teams, operational managers and clinical colleagues to ensure the service continues to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care throughout the transition.

Main duties of the job

• Lead the ward on a 24-hour basis, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
• Provide strong clinical and operational leadership during a period of significant service change.
• Coordinate patient flow, staffing and bed management across multiple specialties.
• Support staff through change while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and patient experience.
• Monitor workforce, quality, performance and governance metrics.
• Lead incident management, risk mitigation and continuous quality improvement.
• Promote multidisciplinary collaboration and effective communication between clinical teams.
• Ensure effective discharge planning and patient-centred care.
• Manage resources effectively while supporting delivery within budget.
