Job overview

Theatres department is made up of 9 operating theatres and a procedure room, including a stand-alone Day Stay Unit. The department provides the Trust with the crucial surgical and an anaesthetic support service, providing an extremely high standard of expert clinical care to our patients.

  • To provide excellent, outstanding, safe, and evidence-based care to our post operative patients in recovery.
  • To take a keen interest in self-development and participate in the development of others within the recovery team.
  • To take responsibility for a lead role within the recovery department as identified by the team leader.

We operate on a six-day working week from Monday to Saturday as we try to reduce our long waiting lists for elective surgery. You will therefore be expected to work some weekends on a rotational basis.

Main duties of the job

  •  To maintain accurate and up to date documentation while ensuring and respecting confidentiality.
  • The post holder is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing care of  patients.
  • To provide expert, evidence-based care within the specialty.
  •  To actively support the process of risk management and health & safety – upholding relevant policies to promote this and ensuring incidents are reported appropriately (Datix) and helping to identify ways of preventing errors and accidents to both patients and staff.
  •  To make a positive contribution to service development affecting the clinical area and positively influence other to adapt to change.
  •  To maintain standards of hygiene and cleanliness within the clinical area, actioning remedy as appropriate and reporting deficits to Theatre Coordinators or Service Manager, as appropriate.
  • To attend and contribute to departmental/unit meetings as required
  •  To actively contribute to Clinical Governance and assist in ensuring CQC Essential Standards are met.
  • To ensure you are responsible for your own personal and professional
  • development and practice with the ability to recognise own limitations and need for continuing education.
  • To participate in any research/audit projects conducted in the clinical area as appropriate.
