Job overview

 The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multidisciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
 To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery
and evaluation of direct patient care.
 To take the lead on delegated responsibilities as defined by the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
 To support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for
patients.
 In the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to be responsible for the day-to-day
management of the ward.
 To manage a delegated group of Band 5 staff ensuring compliance of mandatory training and
appraisal requirements.
 To ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients’ feedback to maintain and
improve patient care.
 To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.

Main duties of the job

The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse post provides an exciting opportunity for a candidate who is looking to develop their leadership skills. You will be given a mentorship team and be expected to deputise for the ward manager and support a busy ward with a complex patient flow. We are looking for a strong role model with good communication skills who can support a very dynamic and enthusiastic team.  MAU is a 32 bedded Medical Admissions Unit with 10 monitored beds. 

The MAU enables the rapid assessment, diagnosis, stabilisation and initial treatment of a wide range of acute medical conditions. Our aim is to provide high quality acute medical and multi-professional care for our patients, allowing speedy diagnosis, treatment and transfer, or discharge back to the community.

You will be encouraged to develop your clinical skills with particular focus on the management of deteriorating adults, assessment and management of acute admissions. The trust has a leadership development programme, which you will be encouraged to attend to support the wards quality improvement agenda.

You will be supported by the Ward Manager and a very engaged team of consultant acute physicians and a senior management team.
