An excellent opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 7 Diabetes Outpatient Dietitian at RFL NHS Foundation trust (Royal Free Hospital and Edgware sites ) This post will continue the well established Outpatient diabetes service provided by the Trust . The post holder will offer expert dietetic advice for patients with diabetes in our Outpatient clinics . We are looking for a passionate professional to become part of a growing dynamic team that offers development opportunities to enhance experience in diabetes within a multidisciplinary workforce.
Main duties of the job
To provide autonomous diabetes care for patients with Diabetes using advanced clinical skills and knowledge of diabetes across our Outpatient service
To lead and autonomously manage a caseload of Outpatients with Diabetes to include those with Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3c Diabetes, ante-natal, young adult , renal and CGM/pump/HCL therapy patients
To deliver structured education ( DAFNE ) to patients with type 1 diabetes
To deliver insulin pump training to individuals and to groups of patients with type 1 diabetes (and provide ongoing follow up)
To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports expert practice within Diabetes.
To lead and innovate diabetes related specialist practice, both within the Trust and through local networks
To develop diabetes guidelines, protocols and policies for the Trust
To develop / train all staff within the multidisciplinary team, providing support, advice, formal and informal education. To support with the training of dietetic students
To actively contribute to and participate in the delivery of Trust-wide multi disciplinary mandatory training and teaching.
The post will be based at Royal Free Hospital site with 1 MDT clinic per week at Edgeware Community Hospital

Education & professional Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Recognised Dietetics Degree qualification or equivalent
- • Health Care Professions Council – Licence to Practice
- • Registered Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA)
- • Membership of BDA specialist group - DSG
- • Recognised trainer for type 1 structured education programme e.g DAFNE
- • Post Graduate training e.g. accredited specialist dietetic course in relevant field e.g behaviour change
Desirable criteria
- • Post Graduate training in managing Insulin pump therapy
- • Diploma in advanced dietetic practice or evidence of studying for this.
- • Clinical Supervisory Course
- • Teaching qualification e.g. City & Guilds 730/Certificate in Health promotion
- • Certificate in Management e.g. ILM Introductory Certificate, NVQ 3 / 4
- • Independent or supplementary prescriber

- • Experienced at supervising junior staff/ dietetic students
- • The post holder will be a trained educator (ideally Type I structured education/ DAFNE) who have an understanding of educational theory appropriate to the age and needs of the learners, and who is trained and competent to deliver the principles and content of the programme.
- • Significant post registration experience specific to diabetes and working at an advanced level specific to the delivery of intensive Type 1 group and one-to-one education.
