Job overview

We have a fixed term opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist or High Intensity CBT Therapist for 2 days a week for 12 months to join our friendly HIV psychology team. The successful applicant will assist in the provision of offering assessments and interventions to people living with HIV within the Ian Charleson Day Centre which is based at Royal Free Hospital.

You will be joining a team of clinical and counselling Psychologists with a particular expertise in health psychology for HIV populations. You will have access to supervision (clinical or cognitive-behavioural supervision).

You will have a clear expression of interest in working within health psychology and a desirable interest in working with people living with, affected by HIV. You will need to be adaptable, confident and able to prioritise a combination of diverse demands on your time and be able to work autonomously.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide highly specialist psychological assessments, formulations and treatment to our HIV positive patients. You will provide psychological assessments and intervention for common mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, sleep, stress and other psychological issues that fall outside of the HIV condition but may have an effect on the HIV condition and management. You will signpost to local services wherever appropriate.

You should have excellent communication skills, together with the ability to organise and motivate others as well demonstrating significant initiative.

The postholder will work on-site on Mondays and offer remote telephone and video appointments on the other day.

The post-holder will work within a small team of HIV specialist psychologists and will support our creative, vibrant multi-disciplinary clinical team to deliver integrated care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder will provide a psychology service to the HIV team in the RFH comprising assessment and psychological care for patients living with HIV. The post-holder will be assessing and offering interventions within the outpatient setting for common psychological problems not necessarily linked to HIV condition. The HIV psychology team you will work alongside with will be providing psychology service associated with coping with HIV disease, prevention of transmission of HIV and managing care, including treatment adherence. Through experience of working with people living with HIV, you may also gain some experience in offering HIV specific psychological support.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as a qualified / trainee clinical psychologist and/or CBT therapist.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient including maintaining a high degreeof professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for patients’ psychological care and treatment
Desirable criteria
  • Desirable: experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts
  • Desirable: experience within HIV / health settings.
