Job overview
The Histopathology Service Co-ordinator will provide support for the JONAL and for the fibril typing service, histopathology and proteomics. The post holder will provide a high standard Histopathology Coordinator service which includes supporting the laboratory team in all aspects of administration associated with fibril typing and histological and immunohistochemical testing referrals. This will include coordinating arrival of samples, correspondence and ensure all histopathological requests, communications and administrative processes are delivered in accordance with the accreditation procedures of the histology lab and department.
Main duties of the job
Core responsibilities of the role – Provide administrative support for histopathology referrals, specimens and reports. Liaise with clinicians, hospitals and laboratories. Maintain accurate records and specimen tracking. Meet confidentiality and turnaround requirements.
Clinical/service delivery – Coordinate histology samples, reports and pathology reviews; liaise with referring teams; arrange timely return of specimens and reports.
Operational and administrative duties – Manage documentation, emails, calls and laboratory paperwork, maintain LIMS, databases, track samples, reports and results, resolve queries and provide administrative cover.
Leadership/management responsibilities – Support laboratory management with internal, external and international referrals, ensuring accurate tracking, documentation and follow-up.
Research and development – Maintain accurate data for audits, quality monitoring and service improvement.
Financial responsibility – No direct financial responsibility; support efficient use of resources, including courier arrangements.
Professional development – Maintain professional competence, accuracy and confidentiality; complete relevant training and meet departmental and accreditation requirements.
