Job overview

We are seeking one senior clinical fellows/registrar to work within our clinical infectious diseases service based at the Royal Free Hospital site to start from September 2026 for 6 months. Later starts will be considered if they meet service requirements.

The Infectious Diseases Department at the Royal Free hospital has an international reputation in clinical infectious diseases including management of high consequence infectious diseases (HCIDs).

Specialist interests in the department of Infection include HCIDs, tuberculosis, management of chronic bone and joint infections, HIV and viral hepatitis co-infections, fungal infections in immunocompromised patients and antibiotic stewardship.

The unit has in-patient beds on Ward 11 South and Ward 11 North. An inpatient review service is provided for the hospital and patients may be joint managed with other subspecialist teams on the appropriate based wards. The Outpatient antibiotic service (OPAT) is run jointly between ID and microbiology. Day-time duties will include infectious diseases ward work, with cross-cover provided to Microbiology and Virology. There will be exposure to Tuberculosis and Chronic Infection clinics.

  • MBBS or equivalent Postgraduate degree
  • Full MRCP(UK)

Experience

  • Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take, during core training or equivalent
  • Experience at CT/ST level of managing patients with a range of infectious diseases

Clinical Skills

  • Competence at core-completion level in the management of medical emergencies, in-patients and outpatients
  • Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
  • Proficiency in a range of medical procedures (as defined by the core curriculum)
  • Able to work without direct supervision where appropriate and to prioritise clinical need
  • Able to maximise safety and minimise risk and an understanding of clinical governance
  • Current ALS certification or equivalent
  • Skills in the management of acute medical emergencies (eg ALERT, IMPACT certification)
