Job overview

To provide a high standard of specialist physiotherapy service to a wide
range of Physiotherapy in-patients. This post consists of 9 monthly
rotations in the following clinical areas:
 Health Services for Elderly People. (HSEP)
 Rapid Response ( A+E and acute medicine )
 Oncology
 Respiratory
 General surgery and Liver Transplantation
 Renal
 Vascular Surgery and Amputees

Main duties of the job

 To assess and treat own caseload of patients as an autonomous and
independent practitioner for patients who may have acute, chronic 
complex presentation, and maintain appropriate treatment plans, and/or records and statistics.

 To participate in the weekend and on call rota
 Supervise and teach junior therapists, students and assistants
 To be involved in the teaching of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), staff
and patient education groups.
 Undertake and present evidence-based projects and research including
departmental audit and suggesting practice changes, under the
supervision of line supervisor.

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Degree/ graduate diploma or equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • • Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a physiotherapist
  • • Certificated graduate courses or equivalent in-house training in clinical specialty areas
Desirable criteria
  • • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • • Membership of special interest group

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Active participation in an audit or project work
  • • Good understanding of relevant clinical guidelines
  • • Broad range of clinical experience at a Band 5 level or above
  • • Experience of working in an acute, hospital-based setting, including working within an MDT
  • • Presentations to a range of groups
  • • Teaching/training of staff or students
  • • Supervision of more junior staff, assistants and/students
  • • Computer literate, to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • • Evidence of CPD
  • • Experience of weekend working and emergency on-call working
Desirable criteria
  • • Motivational Interviewing/ Behaviour Change training (CBT or facilitation skills)

  • • Evidence of specialist clinical skills and core Physiotherapy skills
  • • Ability to work effectively within different teams both multi and uni-disciplinary
  • • Ability to communicate with community partners and external agencies especially to facilitate safe and timel hospital discharge

  • • Ability to critically evaluate current research & apply to own practice
  • • Ability to recognise unacceptable behaviour and act on this appropriately
