Fixed Term Contract – 12 months
37.5 hours per week
We are looking for an advanced wound care podiatrist to cover a 12 month employment break in support of the podiatry department and acute foot multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver specialist foot care as part of the MDT at the Royal Free Hospital.
The acute foot MDT comprises diabetes, vascular, infectious diseases and podiatry treating complex and acute foot conditions. Treating and triaging patients into the defined clinical pathways both internally and externally will be a key component within the post holder’s role. Advanced wound care techniques are part of regular care.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate is required to be able demonstrate Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description and person specification. Post registration experience in diabetes, vascular disease and other acute foot conditions is a must. Candidates should be highly motivated, should have the ability to cope with and manage clinical emergencies, and positively manage stress in a busy and demanding environment.
This post also requires high level of understanding in clinical governance, audit, risk management, safeguarding, duty of candour and evidence-based practice. Education & professional Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • BSc Degree in Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified prior to 1992)
- • Health Professions Council (HPC) registration
- • Certificate in local anaesthesia
- • Evidence or portfolio of post-graduate continued development
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of study or intention to study to masters level qualification
- • Non-Medical Prescribing qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Experience of working at a band 6 level or above in an acute hospital setting with a high risk caseload
- • Experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working
- • Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease/pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot and neurovascular tests
- • Experience of acute and chronic at risk wound care management
- • Awareness/experience of setting & maintaining clinical standards and clinical audit
- • Evidence of contribution to change within the workplace
- • Understanding of role of podiatry within current evolving health environment
- • Previous experience of junior staff & student supervision/ clinical education
- • Actively involved in teaching to the multidisciplinary team

Essential criteria
- • Core skills in Podiatry, knowledge of acute foot conditions and wound management
- • Ability to undertake intricate work in using sensitive diagnostic tools and a range of surgical instruments. e.g in the management and debridement of poor tissue viability wounds and nail surgery
- • Knowledge of recent developments in the profession
- • Knowledge and understanding of the NICE Diabetes guidelines and NSF in diabetes
- • Positive attitude to change
- • Excellent time management and organisational skills
- • Ability to work within Trust policies, including clinical governance, data protection, equal opportunities, and health and safety, to meet the differing needs of the patient
- • To manage stressful situations by remaining calm, objective and professional at all times

- • To be proactive in service development, liaising closely with the MDT in order to promote clinical excellence
