Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Assistant Psychologist within the Adolescent Outreach Team (AOT), a community-based CAMHS service working with young people aged 12–18 who present with increased risk of harm to themselves or others, often following a recent mental health crisis.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide psychologically informed intervention under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist and as part of a multidisciplinary team. The role involves jointly holding a caseload of young people, contributing to assessment, formulation, intervention, risk management and care planning, alongside wider service development and operational tasks.
The role requires the ability to build therapeutic relationships with young people who may experience difficulties with engagement, trust in services, or emotional regulation. The post holder will work closely with carers, schools and wider professional networks to support continuity of care and coordinated intervention.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The duties of the post holder will include:
· Delivering psychological interventions to young people and carers under supervision.
· Contributing to assessment, formulation, risk management and care planning.
· Liaising with schools, social care and other agencies involved in young people’s care.
· Supporting psychology provision within MDT discussions and formulation meetings.
· Contributing to audit, service evaluation, and service development initiatives.
· Contributing to the psychology discipline within the wider service, including attending appropriate meetings.
· Supporting administrative and operational tasks that facilitate timely access to care and continuity of support.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 2:1 or above psychology degree. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British psychological Society
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience working with children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties. Understanding of psychological formulation and its application within clinical practice. Understanding of risk assessment and risk management in child and adolescent mental health settings. Understanding of child and adolescent development and factors influencing emotional wellbeing. Knowledge of safeguarding principles and multi-agency working. Understanding of equal opportunities, diversity and anti-discriminatory practice
Desirable criteria
- Experience working within community CAMHS. Experience of paid work in direct care provision as an Assistant Psychologist. Experience delivering psychologically informed interventions under supervision. Experience contributing to audit, service evaluation or quality improvement projects. Experience working with young people presenting with complex needs or significant risk concerns.
Skills and Abilities

- Ability to work collaboratively with young people, carers and professionals. Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively. Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency systems. Strong written communication skills including clinical note keeping, report writing and professional correspondence.
