Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Podiatrist to join our friendly and supportive Harrow Podiatry Service. This is a 22.5-hour-per-week, fixed-term opportunity covering a period of career break, based at Alexander Avenue Health and Social Care Centre, HA2 9DX.
You will work with a diverse patient population, providing high-quality assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients with a range of podiatric needs. Working autonomously and alongside experienced colleagues, you will play an important role in delivering safe, effective and person-centred care closer to home.
This is an exciting opportunity to further develop your community podiatry experience while contributing to the continued development and transformation of services across Harrow. You will work collaboratively with podiatry colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, using your clinical expertise to make a meaningful difference to patient outcomes and experience.

Main duties of the job
As a Band 6 Podiatrist, you will:

Provide high-quality podiatric assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients with a range of clinical needs, ensuring care is safe, evidence-based and person-centred.

Manage your own clinical caseload with appropriate autonomy, using clinical reasoning to develop effective treatment plans and recognising when specialist advice, escalation or onward referral is required.

Work collaboratively with podiatrists, multidisciplinary teams, healthcare professionals and partner organisations to provide coordinated and seamless care for patients.

Supervise and appropriately delegate clinical activities to junior clinicians and Podiatry Assistants, supporting safe and effective service delivery.

Support and mentor podiatry students during clinical placements, contributing to their learning, development and clinical experience.

Liaise with Highly Specialist Podiatrists and other clinicians when managing patients with complex needs, ensuring appropriate specialist input and continuity of care.

Manage a domiciliary caseload where required, providing podiatry assessment and treatment within patients' homes.

Work flexibly across community clinics and settings in response to service and patient needs, effectively managing a busy and varied workload.

Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, professional practice and patient care in line with CLCH policies and clinical governance requirements.

Education/Qualification
Essential criteria
- BSc Degree In Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified prior 1991)
- Evidence of continual professional and personal development
- Registration with the Health Professions Council
- Certificate in local anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of post grad training in specialist area of podiatry
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post graduate clinical experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working
- Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease / pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot
- Experience of working as part of a specialist team (clinical rotation experience accepted
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in an NHS environment
- Experience of clinical supervision / mentoring

Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of recent developments in the profession
- Full knowledge of podiatric theory and practice
- Knowledge of foot orthotic design and manufacture
- Knowledge of CoP code of conduct

- Understanding of Clinical Governance -theory and practice
- Knowledge of treatment options and skills required in the management of High risk tissue breakdown
- Up-to-date knowledge of clinical issues and treatment development
- Effective oral, listening and written communication in order to negotiate and persuade patients and carers compliance and commitment to their treatment and care plans
- Ability to evaluate patients concerns and needs and propose effective solutions
- Ability to undertake intricate work in using sensitive diagnostic tools and a range of surgical instruments. e.g. in the management and debridement of poor tissue viability wounds and nail surgery
- Organisational and planning skills to manage your own work time and domiciliary caseload
- To be competent in the use of treatment and diagnostic tools (including, Doppler, scalpel techniques, syringe etc)

Essential criteria
- Ability to cope with a busy demanding and varied workload able to cope with the demands of moving between sessional clinics, on foot, by transport. This may include carriage of clinical equipment on home visits.
