Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated Band 6 Podiatrist to join our Brent and Harrow Specialist Care Team. This is an exciting 12-month fixed-term opportunity, based at Alexandra Avenue Health and Social Care Centre, Harrow, HA2 9DX.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical expertise within a supportive specialist community service. You will provide high-quality podiatric assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients with a range of complex needs, using evidence-based practice to support positive outcomes, mobility and independence.
We are looking for a podiatrist who is confident working autonomously while enjoying being part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team. You will bring strong clinical and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to educate and empower patients to understand and manage their foot health.
As a Band 6 clinician, you will have opportunities to develop your specialist knowledge, support colleagues and demonstrate positive clinical leadership within the service.
We also welcome applications from experienced Band 5 Podiatrists who are ready to take the next step in their career and develop their skills at Band 6 level within a supportive specialist team.

Main duties of the job
As a Band 6 Podiatrist, you will:

Provide high-quality podiatric assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients with a range of complex foot health needs, using evidence-based practice and sound clinical reasoning.

Manage an allocated clinical caseload with appropriate autonomy, developing person-centred treatment plans and recognising when specialist advice, escalation or onward referral is required.

Work collaboratively with Podiatrists, multidisciplinary teams and other health and care professionals to ensure patients receive coordinated and seamless care.

Educate and empower patients to understand their condition, manage their foot health and reduce the risk of further complications.

Supervise and appropriately delegate clinical activities to junior clinicians and Podiatry Assistants, while supporting students during clinical placements.

Participate in CLCH podiatry clinical rotations where appropriate, supporting professional development and wider service needs.

Work closely with Highly Specialist Clinicians when managing more complex presentations, seeking specialist advice and support where required.

Manage a domiciliary caseload where required, delivering safe and effective podiatry care within patients’ homes.

Work flexibly across community settings while effectively managing a varied caseload and maintaining high standards of clinical documentation, governance and patient care.

Education/Qualification
Essential criteria
- BSc Degree In Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified prior 1991)
- Evidence of continual professional and personal development
- Registration with the Health Professions Council
- Certificate in local anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of post grad training in specialist area of podiatry
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post graduate clinical experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working
- Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease / pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot
- Experience of working as part of a specialist team (clinical rotation experience accepted

- Experience of working in an NHS environment

- Knowledge of recent developments in the profession
- Full knowledge of podiatric theory and practice

- Knowledge of treatment options and skills required in the management of High risk tissue breakdown

- Ability to evaluate patients concerns and needs and propose effective solutions
- Ability to undertake intricate work in using sensitive diagnostic tools and a range of surgical instruments. e.g. in the management and debridement of poor tissue viability wounds and nail surgery
- Organisational and planning skills to manage your own work time and domiciliary caseload
- To be competent in the use of treatment and diagnostic tools (including, Doppler, scalpel techniques, syringe etc)

- Ability to cope with a busy demanding and varied workload able to cope with the demands of moving between sessional clinics, on foot, by transport. This may include carriage of clinical equipment on home visits.
