Exciting changes are on the horizon for Northwick Park Chemotherapy Service, and we're looking for skilled and motivated Band 6 Chemotherapy Nurses to join our team in the Chemotherapy Day Unit.

 

We have an opening for experienced and passionate nurses with chemotherapy training who are eager to contribute to the development of our chemotherapy service. We are seeking individuals who are committed, motivated, and forward-thinking to compliment our existing team and provide exceptional care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure that an individual programme of care is planned, implemented and evaluated for each patient within own sphere of responsibility.
  • To work as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring the delivery of a high standard of care to the patients.
  • Support patients and carers in their information needs
  • To take charge of the day unit in the absence of the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse as required
  • To participate in all relevant aspects of the Governance process.
  • The post holder will adhere to the NMC code of Professional Conduct at all times and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • To safely administer chemotherapy in keeping with local and national policy
  • To act as a positive role model at all times.

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • First Level registration nursing qualification
  • • Recognised Chemotherapy/SACT course
  • • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • • IV drug administration certificate
  • • BSc Nursing or related subject or working towards.
Desirable criteria
  • • Relevant post-registration qualification in cancer
  • • Advanced Communication Skills Training
  • • Assessors /Mentorship qualification /Teaching Qualification
  • • Completed UKONS SACT Competency Passport

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • • 2 years Oncology / Haematology experience
  • • Chemotherapy administration and in-depth knowledge of chemotherapy regimens and haematology / oncological conditions
  • • Experience of advising on the management of treatment related toxicities and of using CTCAE to assess patients
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience in outpatient chemotherapy setting
  • • Previous experience at Band 6

Skills, Abilities and Attributes

Essential criteria
  • • Cannulation and phlebotomy skills
  • • Competent in the care and management of Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD's)
  • • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • • Flexible attitude to working
  • • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal, non verbal and with the multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
  • • Ability to deliver highly sensitive information
