Job overview

As a Practice Educator, you will play a key role in developing and supporting the practice-based education of our Nursing Associate apprentice workforce. Working closely with local colleges and higher education institutions, you will ensure our students receive high-quality placements and achieve the competencies needed for safe, effective practice. Your role will be central to expanding access and supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds to pursue a career in nursing.

·        Support for HCSW employees and those recruited from local colleges to transition into Student Nursing Associate as an apprentice.

·        Collaborate with the Education Team, Service Managers, and partner institutions to deliver robust placement programmes and educational initiatives.

·        Champion widening participation, helping to remove barriers and facilitate career progression for those from underrepresented groups.

·        Contribute to skill mix analysis and the continuous improvement of our education and placement processes.

·        Provide guidance on achieving agreed competencies, offering tailored support where needed.

Main duties of the job

·        Program Management:

Overseeing the entire apprenticeship program, including curriculum development, delivery, and assessment.

·        Training and Development:

Providing guidance and support to apprentices, ensuring they receive the necessary training and development opportunities to meet the program's requirements, deliver/facilitate inhouse teaching sessions

·        Assessment and Evaluation:

Evaluating apprentices' progress and ensuring they meet the standards required for registration as a Nursing Associate by taking part in 10-12 weekly tripartite meetings with the apprentice, a member of the education provider, and the apprentice

·        Employer Liaison:

Working closely with departmental managers to ensure the apprenticeship program aligns with their needs and that apprentices are adequately supported in their workplace.

·        Curriculum Development:

Contributing to the development and review of the apprenticeship curriculum, ensuring it is up-to-date and relevant to the Nursing Associate role as and when necessary

·        Quality Assurance:

Ensuring the quality and standards of the apprenticeship program are maintained throughout its delivery.

·        Supervision and Support:

Providing supervision and support to apprentices, helping them to develop their skills and confidence as they progress through the program.

  • Able to communicate effectively and professionally

  • Research experience

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse (confirmed through the NMC)
  • Mentorship or equivalent training such as the SSSA
  • Evidence of Level 7 Learning
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualification in education or any clinical specialism
  • • Professional Nurse Advocate/RCS supervisor training or working towards

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 3 years recent experience in an acute area or speciality
  • Experience of managing staff and supporting students
  • Knowledge of NMC Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses and Midwives (May 2018)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in clinical teaching/training
  • • Working knowledge of apprenticeship funding leading to professional qualifications.
