Job overview
This is a senior technical and managerial role responsible for planning, organising and delivering the operations of all 2nd line activities for the Trust’s ICT infrastructure to users throughout the Trust focusing on Desktop issues (including printing) with a broad awareness of server and network issues.
The Engineering and Systems Manager will manage two key functions: the field engineering team that is required to resolve technical issues across all Trust sites; and the Workshop that is responsible for building all new equipment to meet the demands of users and specific development projects. The team will also be required to assist in the resolution of any Severity level 1 issues which arise, if necessary suspending all other work until the issue is resolved.
Main duties of the job
This is a key role to the successful operation of the ICT service and requires the post holder to ensure that the team have excellent customer-facing skills and a user-focused approach as well as the technical and problem-solving skills necessary for managing incidents to resolution.
The role will require a significant amount of capacity planning in order to deploy a large team across the Trust to meet the demands of users in line with Service Level Agreements.
This is a senior role in the ICT department and the post holder will be required to work closely with other ICT Managers to ensure that the ICT infrastructure operates smoothly with sufficient resilience and robustness and with downtime minimised.
The post holder will be accountable for planning, organising and supervising the provision of efficient and effective on-site desk-side 2nd line operations to all the Trust’s IT customers in line with the Digital Strategy.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Relevant technical or professional qualification to master’s level or relevant equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
- Customer facing skills course or equivalent experience.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience working in an ICT Service Management environment managing a 2nd level team.
- Sound knowledge of the following technical products: Windows, Active Directory, Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft Office, NHSmail, Patch management systems.
Desirable criteria
- A good working knowledge of Information Security Management Standards.
Skills, Abilities and Attributes
Essential criteria
- Active and extensive problem solving and analytical skills.
