Job overview

To demonstrate effective clinical leadership and direction of HIV care across HIV services within London North West Healthcare (LNWH).

To support the delivery of excellent nursing care to people living with HIV, ensuing quality standards are maintained and patient outcomes are improved.

To work closely with the multidisciplinary team in the delivery of care to people living with HIV.

To support the development of nurses within the field of HIV healthcare, working closely with the other Clinical Nurse Specialists within the service.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist nursing care and lead nurse-led HIV clinics for adults living with HIV, delivering assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care. Promote patient wellbeing, self-management and adherence to treatment, ensuring patients understand their health needs and access appropriate services.

Deliver expert advice, education and health promotion to patients, carers and healthcare professionals. Support patients through new HIV diagnoses, treatment pathways and ongoing management, maintaining confidentiality, dignity and patient-centred care.

Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, sexual health services, Infectious Diseases teams, community organisations and external agencies to coordinate high-quality care. Provide specialist nursing interventions, monitor outcomes and respond appropriately to urgent or complex clinical situations.

Maintain accurate clinical records, contribute to data reporting, audit, quality improvement and service development. Ensure practice aligns with Trust policies, NMC standards and national HIV guidance.

Act as a clinical leader and role model, supporting and developing junior staff and students. Contribute to recruitment, induction, appraisal, training, clinical audit and governance activities. Promote effective communication across services and support the ongoing development of HIV care within the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Post registration qualification in HIV
  • BSc in Adult Nursing
  • Physical assessment and history taking
  • NMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Non-medical prescribing or willingness to undertake
  • Counselling skills
  • Experience in HIV and sexual and reproductive health

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 2 years working within HIV services as Band 6
  • Experience/knowledge of managing patients with adherence issues
  • Up to date knowledge of HIV medication and treatments
Desirable criteria
  • Experience managing complex cases and liaising with health and social care professional
