Job overview
The London Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Hub (BCSP) is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Healthcare Scientist to lead the department’s quality and deputise for the Hub Manager.
The department is UKAS and SQAS accredited and provides Bowel Cancer Screening for the whole of London using automated Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) analysis.
The ideal applicant should be registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist and have a IBMS specialist portfolio or MSc or equivalent experience.
The successful candidate will have experience of people management, service management and quality management system activities. They will also have extensive experience of working in a Clinical Biochemistry or Blood Sciences laboratory.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a member of the Senior Management Team and assist in the delivery of a quality driven, cost effective, patient focused service, consistent with the objectives of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) and London North West University Healthcare Trust and provide that service in a manner appropriate with the profession.
The main role is to lead the continual improvement of the quality management system and to deputise for the Programme Hub Manager of the BCSP Hub, providing leadership and specialist scientific guidance.
You will work closely with the Programme Hub Manager and the Office Manager to ensure that the overall screening operation runs smoothly.
You will lead and/or support senior staff in the design, implementation and maintenance of the quality management and laboratory systems.
You will support and lead the department to implement and maintain United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) ISO15189 accreditation and other appropriate standards e.g. Screening Quality Assurance Service (SQAS).
You will be a registered Healthcare Scientist and will therefore be required to maintain their knowledge, training, professional skills, behaviour and health in line with (HCPC).
You will have line management responsibility for a team of staff.
