Rolling one year Fixed Term
We would love you to join the large, vibrant and supportive Mainstream Schools Team working in the outer London borough of Hillingdon.
The post holder will be providing speech and language therapy for schools who are buying in additional time from the service. This would be a great first job for a keen new-graduate or alternatively someone looking for opportunities to develop their skills.
Although this is a fixed term contract, the contract has always been rolled over each year as schools continue to buy in time from the service.

We can offer you:
- A supportive, friendly team of speech and language therapy colleagues
- An identified buddy who will meet with you every week at first to help you settle in and who you can ask lots of questions
- Regular supervision meetings with a senior therapist every 6 weeks where you can get further support and advice, along with an annual appraisal
- Termly peer supervision meetings where you can discuss difficult cases, read articles together and share your experiences
- A manageable caseload across a range of schools with a wide range of children/young people
- Opportunities for remote working in school using a laptop with Skype and Lync phone facilities
- Regular opportunities to come back to the office where you can get informal support from the team several times a week
- Opportunities to develop your clinical skills and knowledge through termly study afternoons, shadowing more experienced therapists, membership of a CEN, opportunities to invite a senior therapist for a joint consultation
Band 5 – Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist – 1.0 WTE/ 37.5 hours a week
- You will be responsible for the assessment and therapy for the children on the bought in time caseload who have identified SLCN needs including: language difficulties, speech difficulties, stammering, selective mutism, learning difficulties and ASD
- You will have the opportunity to work directly with the children in groups and individually with an LSA observing the sessions in order to carry out follow up work
- You will offer training, advice and support to school staff
- You will support parents and keep in regular touch with them via termly phone calls or meetings, as well as sending them copies of termly care plans and targets and any reports
- You will jointly set and review targets/ care plans with school staff /parents
- You will jointly plan how to use your time in schools with the SENCO each term; allowing you to be flexible, creative and effective
- You will contribute to audits etc in order to provide evidence that the service being provided is being effective

- Good relationships with parents – 92.5% of parents report that they are happy or very happy with the service. A parent representative attends all of the mainstream schools meetings and parent feedback is sought for new developments
- Good outcome measures with children making progress on 94% of the targets set for them each term and positive Teacher Reported Outcome Measures
- Good partnerships with colleagues in the Local Authority
- An annual service improvement plan in order to ensure that the service is continually evolving and developing
- Won contracts with a variety of commissioners to provide services across a range of settings in Hillingdon, including schools in Hillingdon buying in additional speech and language therapy time
- A strong record on completing audits and developing the service as a result of feedback eg. Care plan audit, annual review audit, outcome measures audit. The service seeks feedback from parents and schools each year.
