Main duties of the job

The main duties of a Clinical Specialist Sonographer include performing a diverse range of sonographic procedures with a high degree of proficiency and autonomy. This involves maintaining the highest standards of patient care, implementing best practices in sonography, and contributing to the development of protocols and guidelines. The role demands active participation in multidisciplinary teams, offering expert advice and support in sonographic matters. Additionally, the sonographer plays a key role in education and training, both for team members and in the broader professional community, ensuring continuous advancement in clinical practice.

Support for consultant sonographers and managers are part of this advanced Band 8a role.

Cross site rotation through Barnet, Chase Farm, Edgware, satellite hospitals may be required depending on service needs.

  • DCR or BSc diploma/degree or equivalent
  • PGCert or higher in medical ultrasound / DMU equivalent
  • Evidence of CPD
  • HCPC or relevant professional registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of working at a band 8a level
  • Experience of working with clinical leads in specialist areas to develop services
  • Experience of working with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience across majority of main areas of US including obstetrics/gynaecology, abdominal, small parts, MSK, breast

Skills and aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead and work as part of a team
  • Ability to teach and mentor students
  • An understanding of local and national guidance relevant to medical ultrasound
  • An understanding of the National and local policies and guidelines in relation to medical ultrasound
