Job overview

This is an opportunity for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist to work in a Recovery Orientated Inpatient Forensic Unit. This role provides clinical
leadership to Learning disability and ASD service as well holding a clinical caseload. You will be part of a dynamic OT team providing OT
provision on a unit wide level as well as ward based. The ideal candidate will have significant experience of working in mental health and / or a
forensic setting. Excellent training and development opportunities exist within this department. The role is on a fixed term or secondment basis

Main duties of the job

Lead Occupational Therapist within the Medium Secure Service overseeing leadership for Occupational Therapy in the Learning Disability and
ASD Service. The purpose of this role is to maintain a clinical caseload and provide clinical leadership to the Occupational Therapy (OT)
department underpinned by Recovery principles. This role involves working closely with peer Leads and Head OT in overseeing provision and
evaluation of Occupational Therapy within the Forensic Directorate.

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential criteria
  • • Degree, Postgraduate/MSc or Diploma in Occupational Therapy or a Certificate OT recognised equivalent
  • • State Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Further training in relevant field such as AMPS or Sensory Integration (Level 7)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Significant experience in Mental Health and/or a Forensic setting
  • • Experience of leading or assisting in the management of service change projects
  • • Assertive in clinical and managerial situations
  • • Excellent demonstrable written verbal and presentation skills
  • • Experience of line management and supervision of staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in participating in research and or auditing.
  • Presenting information to large groups or external bodies

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Carry out high quality and culturally sensitive Occupational Therapy Assessment and treatment process skills
  • • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • • Effective time and project management skills
  • • Evaluate clinical work using formal and informal methods
  • • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi- disciplinary team.
  • • Ability to present complex information in a clear, concise manner.
  • • Models of O.T and their practical application in the clinical field
  • • Clinical risk assessment and management
  • • Psychiatric conditions and treatment available including a range of treatment techniques
  • • Able to deliver theory driven, occupation focused practice. •Needs and concerns of service users with mental health problems, broad knowledge base in professional clinical issues related to forensic OT. • Provide advice and support around clinical issues to other agencies and management as required. • Ability to assess and prescribe adaptive equipment to support independent living.
  • • Skills in devising and implementing strategies to improve and monitor quality
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist assessment or intervention skills and training.
  • Experience of lone working.
  • Awareness of current legislation affecting Mental Health Services.
