Job overview
There is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated person with experience in working with children looking for new challenges. The post provides excellent opportunities to develop your clinical, and professional skills within the community setting in Hounslow. The post holder will contribute to the development of the service and have opportunities to supervise students or staff working within the team.
The Children’s Therapy Team continually strives towards evidence based clinical practice and has efficient services to provide rapid access for children and families with short waiting times for assessment and treatment. We provide services to children aged 0-19 years with neuro-developmental, musculo-skeletal and developmental co-ordination disorders in pre-school, mainstream and special education settings, using a variety of approaches including Bobath. In addition you will have the opportunity to work within a variety of settings including children’s musculoskeletal out patient, and groups.
Main duties of the job
- To assist in the running and management of group therapy.
- To assist in clinical projects which involve group or individual therapy input.
- To assist in administrative duties as specified by the Physiotherapist
- To assist the Physiotherapist in the management of a clinical caseload at locations as appropriate.
- To carry out specific programmes with children and young people with Physiotherapy needs.
- To support parents and carers and education staff (where appropriate) to enable clients to reach their developmental profile within the boundaries of your competence

Qualifications & Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE / ‘O’ level standard - English & Maths
- Has knowledge, experience of working with children. Educated to GCSE / ‘O’ level standard
Desirable criteria
- Has experience of working with parents/ families
Professional / Specialist Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with children with a range of physical disabilities
- An understanding of the needs of individuals and their families with physical difficulties and/or other disabilities
- Ability to give general advice to Parents / Carers around how to develop gross motor skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working alongside other professionals (health, medical or voluntary sectors)
- Awareness and experience of working with children with different types of physiotherapy needs
- To be aware of some of the therapy approaches used by Physiotherapists
- Awareness of the developmental norms for gross motor progress in children
Communication
Essential criteria
- Good interpersonal skills- including observation, listening and empathy skills
- Demonstrates ability to be a good team member
- Fluent spoken and written skills in English
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- To communicate effectively with a wide range of people including parents and professionals
- Respond appropriately to occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances

- Experience of training other professionals
- Experience of writing letters and reports for a range of audiences including parents and professionals
