Junior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

NHS Medical & Dental: Junior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

We wish to appoint an enthusiastic team player to join our friendly department as junior clinical fellow. The post is ideally suited to candidates finishing their FY2 year (or equivalent) who want to gain further experience of the speciality while applying for an O&G training, or for candidates pursuing wider FY3/FY4 experience before deciding on a specialty. Previous holders of this post have attained great success after completing the posting.

We practice Obstetrics and Gynaecology to a high standard and take pride in evolving our services to keep abreast of new developments and enhance the quality of care we provide. Our local population is diverse and often challenging; including a significant proportion of patients newly arrived from overseas. We are a popular training hospital for both undergraduate students from the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College, London and postgraduate trainees in general practice and our own discipline. Education plays an important role in our day-to-day practice and is often multidisciplinary in nature

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out emergency duties in A&E and on Labour ward including the initial assessment and investigation of patients who attend the Labour ward, Triage and A&E and assist in obstetric and gynaecological emergencies. They will also be expected to see patients under consultant supervision in outpatient clinics including antenatal clinics, gynaecology clinics and the early pregnancy assessment unit. There will also be opportunities to assist in elective obstetric procedures and general gynaecological surgery including the day case and inpatient elective surgery.

Working for our organisation

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of England's top-performing and safest trusts. We operate two main acute hospital sites—Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital—along with award-winning clinics across North West London.

Our nearly 7,500 staff care for a diverse population of 1.5 million, providing full clinical services, including maternity, A&E, and children’s services, plus specialist HIV and sexual health clinics. The Care Quality Commission rates us 'Good' in safety, effectiveness, care, and responsiveness, and 'Outstanding' in leadership and resource use.

We continually invest in our facilities, including a £30m expansion of critical care at Chelsea and Westminster and an £80m Ambulatory Diagnostic Centre at West Middlesex.

We are committed to equal opportunities and believe that diversity drives innovation and excellence. As part of our dedication to equity, we actively welcome applications from individuals from the global majority, veterans and underrepresented communities. We value the unique perspectives and experiences that diverse teams bring and are committed to creating an environment where all voices are heard, respected, and empowered to succeed."

If you haven’t heard from us within three weeks of the closing date, your application was likely unsuccessful. Employment is subject to a six-month probationary period.

Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
