Consultant Oncologist, Breast & Colorectal Cancer, with Imperial

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

This post is full time and held jointly between the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The post is based across both sites and comprises clinical oncology consultant sessions at Charing Cross Hospital and sessions in the oncology unit at the West Middlesex Hospital. The post is for 7PA’s at the West Middlesex site and 3 PA’s at Charing Cross site. Radiotherapy is planned and delivered at Charing Cross Hospital.

The specific role of a clinician with experience in both breast and colorectal cancers is required to support the busy established practice within these departments. This replacement post is being advertised as a full-time to strengthen the existing close ties within the departments and facilitate good clinical care and research.

The post holder will be an integral member of both oncology departments and share consultant responsibility with Consultant colleagues for colorectal and breast patients at both Charing Cross and West Middlesex Hospitals. In addition, clinical research is an important component of the post.

The successful candidate will be expected to have completed their specialist training in Clinical Oncology and will hold MRCP or present evidence of equivalent training and experience.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will provide inpatient and outpatient services in busy, but well supported hospitals.

It is anticipated that the post holder will support the delivery of systemic therapies in an expanding service, drive forward improvements in the service that we provide to our patients as well as to support clinical trials.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. As a senior member of the team, the post holder will become a key part in the delivery of training and supervision of junior colleagues.

Working for our organisation

We  provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East.

We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We’re one of the safest and best performing Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

In 2020 Trust was rated by the Care Quality Commission as Outstanding in the well-led and use of resources domains and Good in the safe, effective, caring, and responsive domains.  The Trust as a whole was Good, but the Chelsea site was Outstanding.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
