Deputy Lead Pharmacist, Cancer & Technician Services

NHS AfC: Band 8b

Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacist to join our expanding Cancer and Technical Services team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an exciting time to join us at West Middlesex Hospital as we open our new Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre, which is projected to double the number of chemotherapy patients treated and expand the range of tumour sites we manage. The new centre, opening in Autumn, will transform the way we deliver cancer care in our community, and you can be part of shaping it. If you’re an enthusiastic, motivated pharmacist looking to take the next step in cancer services and technical services, this is your moment.

Main duties of the job

As the Deputy Lead Pharmacist, you will be responsible for all aspects of the professional management of the Technical Services section of the Pharmacy, including the clinical input into prescribing and administration of chemotherapy, in order to provide a high quality, efficient pharmacy service to patients and staff within the Trust.

You will:
•    Be the accountable pharmacist for the aseptic unit on the WM site
•    Work closely with the Lead Technician, Technical Services to ensure governance and operational oversight of the service.
•    Play a key role within the multidisciplinary team, delivering a patient‑focused pharmacy service to cancer patients.
•    Take a key role in the redesign of pharmacy workflows as we develop our new Chemotherapy Day Unit and Technical Services Unit.
•    Oversee service developments, and support the development of business cases.
•    Drive improvements by taking part in clinical guideline development, audits and quality improvement initiatives in medicines optimisation.
•    Lead by example in the specialisms of oncology, haematology and technical services.
•    Deliver clinical ward‑based duties as required.
•    Participate in on‑call, weekend/bank holiday, lunch and late‑duty rotas.

You will be a proactive team player with excellent organisational and communication skills, committed to delivering safe, effective and compassionate care.

Working for our organisation

Our Trust is one of England's top-performing and safest trusts. We operate two main acute hospital sites—Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital—along with award-winning clinics across North West London.

Our nearly 7,500 staff care for a diverse population of 1.5m, providing full clinical services including maternity, A&E and children’s services, plus specialist HIV and sexual health care. The CQC rates us Good in safety, effectiveness, care and responsiveness, and Outstanding in leadership and resource use.

We continually invest in our facilities, including a £30m expansion of critical care at Chelsea and an £80m Ambulatory Diagnostic Centre at West Mid.

We are delivering sustainable healthcare through our Green Plan. In line with Greener NHS ambitions, we aim for net zero carbon emissions by 2045. Achieving this requires collective effort. We encourage staff to reduce their impact on carbon, waste and pollution wherever possible. Every action counts to create a healthier, more sustainable future.

We are committed to equal opportunities and believe diversity drives innovation and excellence. We welcome applications from the global majority, veterans and underrepresented communities, valuing the perspectives they bring.

If you haven’t heard from us within 3 weeks of the closing date, your application was likely unsuccessful. Employment is subject to a six-month probation. Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
