Job overview

The Matron will provide leadership and responsibility for the following key areas in Maternity and work closely with the Matron for Intrapartum care and community services to deliver 

  • Bereavement team
  • Postnatal inpatient care with supporting a review of transitional care and supporting the examination of the newborn screening.  With a key relationship to the Neonatal team.
  • Baby Friendly Feeding Initiative
  • Antenatal inpatient and assessment unit

You will be expected to deliver clinical excellence and demonstrate a strong commitment to multi-professional working. A willingness to learn and work within a constantly changing environment is necessary together with the ability to remain calm under pressure.The role requires specialist knowledge and experience in high risk and normalising patient experience  and innovations for improving patient experience, as well as excellent organisational and communication skills.  

 

Main duties of the job

  • ·       Ensure a woman-centred approach throughout the maternity pathway.

  • Create a supportive environment in which training, coaching and practice development needs are accurately identified and progressed through agreed structures, appraisals, PDPs and performance management.
  • ·       Ensure appropriate provision and care for the management of resources for midwifery and support staff, consumables, and environment.

  • ·       Lead with credibility and authority and be revered for high standards of patient care.

  • ·       Lead on ensuring that inpatient related maternity performance targets and quality standards are met

  • ·       Be a strong advocate for excellent patient care so that this will be fundamental to all clinical decisions within the maternity service

  • ·       Positively seek improvements to practice and constructively challenge poor practice / behaviour

  • ·       Champion the spread of innovation between departments / wards

  • ·       Provide positive role modelling behaviour for staff
