Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Assistant who has gained, or has almost completed, their Level 2 Apprenticeship in Pharmacy Services, to join our friendly team.
This is a varied, interesting and physically demanding position based in our distribution team at Kingston Hospital, with additional responsibilities for our IV fluid service. Experience will be gained in different aspects of hospital pharmacy and you will also be given the opportunity to learn about pharmacy procurement services.
You must have customer service experience, be a good communicator (both written and verbal) and show a willingness to learn. We offer the opportunity to enhance existing skills and develop new ones.
We are moving towards a 7-day working week service, including weekends, Bank Holidays and late duty and you would be expected to participate in these rotas.

Main duties of the job
You will support the supervision and training of the distribution team and management of the IV fluid service. You will assist in goods receipting, general supply of medicines and checking stock entering and exiting the pharmacy store.
Carrying out a top up service of medicines and IV fluids to wards and departments on and off site and provide an efficient and effective pharmacy supply service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To receive deliveries into the pharmacy store and/or IV fluid stock room, ensuring documentation is checked prior to signing.
Unpack deliveries as per procedure, ensuring goods are correct, in-date and fit for purpose before receipting on the pharmacy computer system.
Resolve delivery issues, including missing items, discrepancies and damaged goods and act as the responsible person for processing return to suppliers.
Unlicensed products identified and to place them into quarantine awaiting approval for use.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE grade C in Maths and English (or equivalent) and / or equivalent experience
- NVQ Level 2 or willingness to complete or equivalent experience
Experience and Skills
Essential criteria
- Stock control and inventory management experience
- Knowledge of hospital pharmacy and terminology
- Strong working knowledge of good distribution practice
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and carry out various manual handling tasks
- Computer literate
Desirable criteria
- Recent experience in hospital pharmacy stores
- Experience of pharmacy computer systems (eg; CMM)
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
