Job overview

The Housekeeper plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within the Acute Assessment Unit.

This position supports the clinical team by ensuring hygiene standards are upheld, equipment is maintained and cleaned according to policy, and supplies are appropriately managed. 

The housekeeper also contributes to patient care by assisting with meal service, as necessary,  and supporting effective communication between patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a tidy and uncluttered environment in all patient and staff areas.

  • Clean and store general and specialist equipment in line with manufacturer guidelines and trust policies.

  • Participate in cleaning audits and report any deficiencies.

  • Support the nursing team in ensuring store rooms and equipment areas remain clean and organised.

  • Assist in monitoring and reporting faulty clinical equipment, ensuring items are decontaminated before return.

Patient and Staff Support:

  • Assisting with meal service, as necessary,  and supporting effective communication between patients, staff, and visitors.

  • Welcome and orient patients and visitors, promoting a friendly and informative atmosphere.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Adhere to all relevant trust policies and procedures, including health and safety, infection control, fire safety, and confidentiality.

  • Report incidents or accidents promptly to the senior team.

Main duties of the job

The housekeeper will work with the Nurse in Charge of the unit ensuring that all visitors are welcomed and that excellence in customer care and front of house services are provided.

This role will support nursing staff but will not replace supplement domestic services, but enhance patient experience overall.

The post holder will work as an integral part of the unit team, being responsible for ensuring the delivery of a range of activities to support the clinical team in delivering care, including keeping the unit neat, tidy, uncluttered and well presented; the daily stock of clinical supplies and for equipment cleaning and maintenance across the 50 bedded ward. .

 They will be responsible for maintaining a safe and comfortable clinic rooms and environment and will work flexibly.
