Applications are invited for a 10 PA Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Disease post based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. Applications will also be considered from those wishing to work part time or on a job share basis.
This is an exciting opportunity to be appointed to a post integrating with the existing infectious disease service. This post will also provide additional roles for a range of new opportunities at GOSH. These include developing services for infection in the immunocompromised host and aligns with the GOSH Children’s Cancer Centre which will be due to open in 2028. The successful postholder will also have the opportunity to help implement a new vaccine service and expand our existing antimicrobial stewardship programme.
The department deals with over 3,500 patient episodes per year. Referrals to the department are received from North Central and North East London as well as Southern England.
The inpatient ward (Pelican Ward) is shared with rheumatology, dermatology, immunology and BMT and includes Hepa-filtered, air flow controlled cubicles with negative pressure isolation facilities. There are close working relationships between ID and the clinical Immunology, and BMT teams as well as medical microbiology, virology and infection prevention and control.
Main duties of the job
This is a full time (10 PA) Consultant substantive post. The post holder will provide a contribution to the inpatient ID service, working closely with Dr Bamford and Dr Kadambari who lead in this area. The post holder will be expected to be at GOSH for a 42 weeks each year, the remaining 10 weeks being for annual, study, professional leave.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- CCT/CCST in subspecialty of Paediatric Infectious Diseases (or within 6 months at time of interview) or equivalent training and experience (eligible for CESR)
- Level 3 safeguarding training
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree – PhD, MD or equivalent
- Formal teaching qualification
- Management qualification
Experience/Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience in Paediatric Infectious Diseases
- Some experience in Immunology
- Experience of teaching students and multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of leading in Clinical Audit processes
- Published research in peer reviewed journals in relevant area
- Awareness of the importance of Clinical Governance through experience of participating in quality or safety improvement projects.
- Valid BLS Training
Desirable criteria
- Valid APLS and NLS
