 Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group, is looking for a motivated Registrar (ST3+ equivalent level) in Acute Medicine and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) on a 12-month fixed contract. This post would be suitable for motivated Doctors who have completed Foundation and Core Medical competencies (or equivalent), have successfully passed parts 1 and 2 of the MRCP examination and wish to gain a period of focused experience and training in acute medicine.  

 

Main duties of the job

This post would be suitable for motivated Doctors who have completed Foundation and Core Medical competencies (or equivalent), have successfully passed parts 1 and 2 of the MRCP examination and wish to gain a period of focused experience and training in acute medicine.  

This role provides an exciting opportunity to gain clinical experience in Acute Medicine, rotating through the busy and varied acute assessment unit (AAU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). There is a unique opportunity to participate in developing new SDEC pathways to enhance the service. As per personal interest, the postholder may also participate in the general medicine registrar on-call rota, hence holding full MRCP will be desirable.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • The applicant must have achieved a primary medical qualification as recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC) and have current Full Registration with the GMC.
  • MRCP Part 1 and Part 2 (written)
Desirable criteria
  • MRCP Part 2 PACES

Clinical Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • The applicant must be familiar with and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the major principles of the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2006)
  • Current ALS certification
  • Previous NHS Experience
  • Clinical experience at SpR level
  • Acute medicine and Ambulatory Care/SDEC experience
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit or quality improvement

Language & Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in paragraph 22 of the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2006).
  • Good IT Skills
