YM73

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

Barts Health supports the Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.

Job overview

This role is essential to supporting and developing the spinal surgical practice at Barts Health NHS Trust. The spinal sub-specialty is a critical part of the trust’s elective programme and is undergoing further development to ensure high-quality patient care.

The post will involve working across multiple sites, primarily at the Royal London Hospital and Whipps Cross Hospital, with on-call commitments initially based at the Royal London. The successful candidate will also contribute to the establishment of a consultant-led designated spinal trauma rota, subject to recruitment completion.

Applicants must possess full General Medical Council (GMC) registration and be on the Specialist Register or within six months of receiving a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview. Candidates with a sub-specialty interest in paediatric orthopaedics are encouraged to apply.

3. Evidence-Based Care: Provide care that adheres to the highest clinical and quality standards, including the 18-week waiting time standard and any relevant local agreements with commissioners.
4. Departmental Management: Actively participate in the management of the department, liaising closely with the lead clinician, Clinical Director, and Surgery/Cancer CAG Director.
5. Emergency Duties: Perform other duties as required during emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
6. Flexibility: The outlined duties are subject to change based on service needs, requiring flexibility and cooperation from the post holder.
