Barts Heart and Thorax  Centre (BHTC) is looking for an Advanced Cardiac MRI Radiographer to join our team for a period of 12 months full time to cover maternity leave. Cardiac Imaging is made up of 3 dedicated Siemens Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) Imaging scanners and a Siemens Cardiac CT (CCT) scanner. We also have 10 Cardiac Catheter Labs, with plans to further expand our services within this site and across the Trust. 

The department has won awards for and is a National Leader in scanning patients with Cardiac devices. As part of BHTC, we carry out a large amount of research and complex scanning with plenty of opportunities to get involved. We are immensely proud to have many of our Radiographers publishing research and representing us at conferences both in the UK and around the World.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as an Advanced Radiographer specialised in Cardiac MRI, where they will be responsible for a variable caseload of patients. They will be an advocate for radiographer professional development and use their advanced knowledge to support specialist radiographer education and training.

Patients will present with a full range of complex conditions and the post holder will be responsible for carrying out the appropriate diagnostic procedures to support the diagnosis of complex conditions. The post holder will supervise, support and assist students and junior radiographers in service delivery and personal development.

The working pattern within the department is currently comprised of 4x 9.5hr shifts per week, often with optional weekend lists available on the staff bank.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstratable evidence of expert Cardiac MRI radiographic experience.
  • Evidence of advanced knowledge in Cardiac MRI imaging/ procedure
  • Experience of working with junior staff and students.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in perusing innovation and role development in Cardiac MRI radiography.
  • Experience in more than one hospital.
  • Evidence of experience of first line management

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Advanced knowledge in a range of Cardiac MRI Imaging techniques and innovations.
  • Demonstrate awareness of responsibility to and advocacy for patients.
  • Teaching and training skills with the ability to adapt training and teaching styles in response to needs of the trainee.
  • Team player with enthusiasm for Cardiac radiography, with the ability to engage staff at all levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst subject to interruption.
  • Willingness to embrace new ideas and concepts.
  • Very high personal and radiographic standards, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to use own initiative, solve problems and make decisions.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of participation in QA Programme and maintenance of agreed standards.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Portfolio of evidence of advanced professional development/training and education for Cardiac MRI Radiography. This may include post graduate specialist training equivalent to Master’s level
  • Evidence that knowledge of Cardiac MRI imaging techniques is up to date.
  • Evidence of the ability to critically analyse Cardiac MRI radiography practice and role development/training potential

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc or Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography
  • State Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate specialist training equivalent to Master’s level.

Other

Essential criteria
  • Requirement to work some late duties and weekends
  • Requirement to be able to manage own workload and diary.
  • Sufficient to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptions
