Job overview

Barts Health is looking to recruit a Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 who will work in Elizabeth Ward at Whipps Cross Hospital. This post is open to individuals who are both experienced Healthcare Support Workers or those new to care. Individuals that are new to care will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies.

We are looking for compassionate and motivated individuals who are passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care in a hospital setting. The role involves undertaking a range of delegated clinical tasks, such as:

  • Patient observations (e.g., monitoring vital signs)
  • Assisting with personal care and mobility
  • Supporting patients’ nutritional and hydration needs
  • Undertaking limited range of delegated duties (e.g. taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening)
  • Simple wound dressings
  • Strong teamworking and communication skills are essential to ensure the comfort, wellbeing, and safety of our patients.

An excellent communicator, they have experience of working in a team, to ensure the comfort, wellbeing and safety of our patients.

Elizabeth Ward/CCU is a busy cardiology unit with 8 coronary care beds and 10 general cardiology beds.  Our cardiology patients require specialist cardiac investigations and treatment, encompassing sub-specialties such as interventional cardiology, heart failure, electrophysiology and implantation of cardiac devices.

 There is a multidisciplinary approach in providing care by dedicated nursing team in delivering safe and high quality of care. There is scope for professional development through the role of link nurse and the potential to develop knowledge and skills through relevant healthcare courses/training providing to nurses.

We are the first ward in Whipps Cross Hospital to pioneer flexible working where staff have the opportunity in selecting the shift they would like to work in support of work life balance.

Barts Health has a diverse and busy service that may require staff to be flexible in their working. The post holder will be required to work within a challenging clinical environment and may undertake shift work which may include nights and weekends

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an integral part of the nursing team actively taking part in meeting the needs of patients and of the service in accordance with agreed standards under direct supervision of the registered nurse. The post holder will continue to develop essential competencies though training and practice to ensure safety and quality are the priority.

This post attracts individuals who are new to care. You will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within 6 months upon successful completion of all required competencies; until then, you will be placed at a Band 2 salary.
