Job overview

We are excited to invite applications for a skilled and motivated Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) to join the critical care team at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in February 2027. This is an opportunity to work within a world-renowned tertiary centre for complex cardiac & cancer care, delivering advanced practice at the forefront of critical care innovation. Our unit provides highly specialised services including ECMO, a cardiogenic shock pathway, and the management of complex cardiac & surgical patients, alongside oncology and perioperative critical care.
The ACCP role is fully embedded within the medical workforce, contributing to the rota and working alongside consultants & multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic, high-acuity environment. You will practise autonomously within your scope, undertaking advanced assessment, diagnosis, and management of critically ill patients across the full pathway — from admission & stabilisation through to ongoing treatment and discharge.
We are seeking an enthusiastic practitioner who has completed an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, current experience at an advanced level, & a strong portfolio demonstrating clinical competence & critical care experience.

Provisional interview date  9th September 2026

Main duties of the job

•    The ACCP will provide advanced clinical care to critically ill patients, working autonomously and within the multidisciplinary team to manage complex and deteriorating conditions.

•    The ACCP supports safe, effective care through coordination of patient pathways, including ward rounds, admissions, discharges, and transfers.

•    The ACCP will exercise advanced clinical judgement, working within scope of practice and professional and legal frameworks, taking responsibility for the safety and quality of care, including the management of deteriorating patients across critical care and the wider hospital.

•    The role includes providing specialist advice, supporting medical trainees, trainee ACCPs and nurses, ensuring high standards of clinical practice. The ACCP supports and delivers education across the MDT, including teaching and journal clubs and simulation.
You will contribute to service development through guideline development, rota support, and MDT     collaboration. Engage in audit, research and quality improvement to enhance patient safety, improve patient outcomes and service performance.

This role offers the opportunity to further develop specialist skills within a supportive environment that values innovation, professional development, and high quality patient care.
If you feel this role aligns with your skills and ambitions, we would be delighted to hear from you.
