Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a substantive Consultant Gastroenterologist with a specialist interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) to join our dedicated team at The Royal London Hospital. This is a 10 PA role offering an opportunity to focus on IBD within a leading London teaching hospital.
This post has a strong focus on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) with inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology services delivered at The Royal London Hospital. The successful candidate will work within a well-established and supportive multidisciplinary team.
The IBD service at The Royal London Hospital has a strong and active research team, offering excellent opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in clinical trials and other research activities, should they have an interest. The department is also actively utilizing and developing intestinal ultrasound as a key diagnostic and monitoring tool in the management of IBD.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required as a minimum to fulfil the following
criteria within this role:
· To have and maintain full registration with the General Medical Council. Medical Staff are advised to continue membership of one of the medical defence organisations.
· Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
· Leadership, development and organisation of the services in their charge in line with the Trust’s business plans. Liaison, communication and co-operation with the Lead Clinicians, General Managers and the relevant Clinical Directors for General and Specialist Medicine within the trust.
· Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of junior doctors who may be allocated to support the gastroenterology service.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCP or Equivalent
- Full GMC Registration / on the specialist register
- CCT in Gastroenterology and GIM
Desirable criteria
- Higher Research Degree
- Qualified in intestinal ultrasound
Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad experience in NHS gastroenterology clinic and ward work
- Evidence of advanced IBD and Nutrition Medical knowledge
- Meets BSG/JAG standards
- Independent in IBD surveillance endoscopy
- Independent in intestinal ultrasound
- Participation in out of hours GI bleed rota
- Experience in quality improvement projects
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Detailed knowledge of Gastroenterology
- Knowledge of the specialist skills required for this post
