Trust Doctor ST1/2 Level in General Surgery

Based at Whipps Cross Hospital

Applicants are invited to join the General Surgery Department at Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. We are offering a fixed-term Trust Doctor (ST1/ST2) post to cover a training gap. This post is offered strictly for a fixed term period until 31st March 2026 with no guarantee of extension at this point. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in a supportive and dynamic surgical environment. The post is well-suited for doctors at ST1/ST2 level, including GP trainees seeking additional exposure to surgical conditions. You will be given access to regular elective theatre sessions as well as be on the on-call rota which may includes nights on-call, being the A&E liaison SHO for surgical admissions and being based in our surgical assessment unit (SAU).

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work closely with the General Surgery team, participating in the assessment and management of all general surgical admissions. You will be aligned with one of the General Surgical firms, contributing to both elective and emergency inpatient care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration
  • MBBS
  • Completed the requirements for the MRCS
Desirable criteria
  • Part 1 MRCS

Experience

  • Previous involvement in governance & audit projects and teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Track record of involvement in research Publications

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Broad knowledge in pre- and post-operative patient care
