We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic clinical nurse specialist to join the existing Gynae oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team as a qualified full-time Nurse Hysteroscopist.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a direct provider of diagnostic hysteroscopy and therapeutic management to women with suspected gynaecological malignancy and must be an accredited hysteroscopist with the British Society Gynaecological Endoscopy (BGSE).

The accredited post holder will be able to provide an autonomous nurse-led service for women referred under the gynaecological suspected cancer pathway for postmenopausal bleeding and other menstrual problems requiring hysteroscopic examination. 

The post holder will also function in a range of non-provider roles including educator and researcher. In conjunction with other team members, the multi-professional team and continue develop the provision and quality of the gynaecological services for women referred to the Trust. This will demonstrably reflect the principles of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness as well as Trust and National Policy.

The post-holder is for an competent nurse hysteroscopist who will be able to provide expert care to women referred to the hysteroscopy clinic. The post holder will have the responsibility of ensuring safe clinical practice and confidentiality is carried out in the clinical environment as directed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) The Code, Trust policies and in accordance with the Department of Health guidelines.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Nurse Hysteroscopist (BSGE accredited)
  • Registered Nurse- degree level
  • Degree Qualification in Nursing and/or Cancer Related
  • Possession of a 1st degree and evidence of working towards a Masters Degree Certification by the British Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) or working/willing to undertake it.
  • Proficient in the insertion of Mirena IUS/ willingness to be trained.
  • Advanced Nurse Practise Master’s Degree or working towards
Desirable criteria
  • Masters or PhD qualification
  • Teaching and education course
  • Proficiency in ultrasound scanning of pelvis
  • Non-Medical Prescribing
  • Master’s degree in nursing including modules regarding cancer care
  • Master’s degree in nursing including modules regarding cancer care
  • Nurse Prescribing Course
  • Physical Assessment Course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a band 7 experience in gynaecology or oncology.
  • Experience of providing care and treatment to women with menstrual disorders and suspected of a gynaecological cancer.
  • Manage referrals from other health care professionals and act in accordance with agreed protocols by Trust, NICE,NELCH, BSCE and NNC.
  • Prioritisation of work load on both clinical and non-clinical areas
  • Experience in clinical research and audits

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • To be familiar with the Faster Diagnosis System (FDS) of cancer services and recognize how this role plays an important part
  • Have a sound Knowledge in women’s health and the anatomical structure of the female pelvis.
  • Proven clinical skills & sound knowledge base in various treatment modalities of gynaecological cancer, menstrual disorders and benign gynaecological disease.
  • Understanding of the concept of clinical and shared governance
  • Understanding of quality and strategies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of patient group directives and integrated care pathways.
Desirable criteria
  • Good working knowledge of gynae-oncology and the patient treatment pathway
  • Understanding of management of data
