Job overview

We are seeking an accredited Gynaecological Oncologist or a Gynaecologist with Special interest in Cancer Diagnostics to join the Gynaecological Oncology team at Royal London Hospital as a Locum Consultant as of 8th Decemeber 2025, or as soon after on a mutually agreed start date, for a fixed twelve-month period.

The duties of the post will be determined based on the appointee’s experience and skills, and the requirements of the department. The timetable will include a combination, dependent on the above of: Faster Diagnostic Outpatient clinic, Outpatient hysteroscopy clinic, Gynae-Oncology Clinic, Women’s Precision and Prevention Clinic, Gynae-Oncology MDT meeting, a weekly all day operating list and non-resident on call for Gynae-Oncology patients.

Main duties of the job

     Consultants will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of their departments.

     Consultants will undertake administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their clinics or department. All Consultants are expected to assume responsibility both singly and corporately for the management of the Junior Medical Staff. In particular, they are expected to be responsible for approving and monitoring junior staff rotas and junior staff locum arrangements, where appropriate.

     The successful applicant will be expected to participate fully in the medical audit arrangements in the department. 

     Consultants are also expected to concern themselves with the professional development of their trainees.

     All Consultants have a responsibility to contribute to the teaching and assessment of undergraduates and of junior doctors.

     Consultants are expected to continue with all aspects of professional development to allow successful appraisal and revalidation.

Person specification

Professional Qualifications and Registration

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • CCT or equivalent
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of being admitted to GMC Specialist Register
  • Independent in running Gynae-Oncology Faster Diagnostic Clinics
Desirable criteria
  • RCOG Sub-specialty Accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology or equivalent
  • Benign Abdominal Surgery: open and laparoscopic ATSM or Gynaecological Surgical care SITM or Gynaecological oncology ATSM/SITM or equivalent fellowship experience
  • Independent in out-patient hysteroscopy and running Faster Diagnostic Clinics

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in Gynacological Cancer Management
  • Evidence of working effectively in multi-disciplinary team
  • Evidence of commitment to teaching
  • Experience of management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent

Language

Essential criteria
  • 1. Are able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements

Research/publications

  • Knowledge of research methodology
  • Publications in peer review journals
  • Participation in committee work, organising meetings, conferences, workshops

  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients

  • Ability to communicate effectively with GPs and other professionals in hospital and community
